about

Kim Stone, Eric Moon and Mark Fuller met by playing a handful of casual gigs for the late singer, Dee Henrichs and guitarist Lenny Charles.
The band's seeds were planted then but, having already auditioned, the call came for Kim to join Spyro Gyra.
He moved to NYC immediately for what became a 5 yr. stint with the group.

Subsequently, Moon and Fuller began working together in numerous projects, often with bassist / engineer Bob Drake, but continued getting together with Kim whenever he came through Denver/Boulder.
In 1985, with Drake engineering, they entered Free Reelin' Sound and recorded Bob Goes To The Store, Kim's tune about his legendary dog.
It was the 1st track recorded of the 13 presented here.

Spyro Gyra later recorded a version along with a music video often seen on VH1 in the mid-1980's.
Featuring Bob the dog, of course.

Throughout 1985/86 rehearsals, jams and recording sessions continued whenever schedules allowed.
Trumpeter Ron Miles occasionally joined the group in studio.
They also backed singer/songwriter Jill Sobule at times during these years.

In 1986 Kim briefly moved to Pueblo, Colorado putting an 8 track recording system in his house.
Susan Rene was recorded there by Kim.
Earthschool's basic tracks, with keyboardist Steve Barta sitting in for Moon, was also cut at Chez Kim with further overdubs at Free Reelin'.

Arnie Swenson's Prolific Records offered to release what by then was an album's worth of music.
L.P's of "Earthschool" and Ron Miles' 1st as bandleader, "Distance For Safety", came out late 1986 on Prolific.

Made possible by Kim's return to Boulder, and having some regional success with the record, the band gigged frequently during 1987-88.
They also backed vocal group Rare Silk, adding guitarist Colin 'Bones' Jones, for a mini-tour in Rome, summer 1988.

While usually playing as a trio, Ron or Denver percussion great, Gary Sosias (Congas, Bongos and Timbales), were often on the bandstand.
There are no known recordings of the band with Gary, unfortunately.

In late '88 the group ensconced at engineer/steel guitarist John Macy's downtown Denver studio and tracked another 6 tunes with Macy at the board.

That batch of tunes was never released until now.

One Eric Moon track was lost so there are 5 additions to the original Earthschool L.P.

In 1989 Kim and family moved to Los Angeles, he began his long stint with The Rippingtons, and the Kim Stone band never gigged or recorded again.
